Veneered doors for a private villa
A Unique Floor-to-Ceiling Door Set
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
This project brought to life an ambitious brief from the client: to create not merely a functional door, but a dominant interior feature that emphasises the height of the room and the purity of its lines. We delivered a sophisticated construction uniting double doors and a tall false transom into a single monolithic ensemble.
Key project parameters:
- Construction type: double interior doors with a visible architrave.
- Design: the client's bespoke design concept, integrating the door into wall panelling that runs "to the ceiling".
- Distinctive finish: engineered oak veneer with the grain laid in alternating directions.
- Visual effect: with no visible hinges and seamless integration with the false transom and the wall panels, the entire structure reads as a single timber wall.
Delivery details and materials
As the project photographs show, the door set sits harmoniously within a contemporary interior, echoing the warmth of the timber textures in the furniture and decor.
Engineered Veneer Laid in Alternating Directions
The centrepiece of the project was the use of premium engineered veneer. This is more than veneer alone: it is a material created for precise control of texture.
- A play of texture: we developed a sophisticated veneer layout especially for this project. Alternating horizontal and vertical grain directions across the door leaves and the false transom create a rhythmic geometric pattern that "comes alive" as the light falls across it (clearly visible in the shaded area of the image). This gives the doors additional depth and architectural presence.
- Aesthetics without compromise: engineered veneer avoids the natural defects of solid timber and delivers a stable, repeatable and predictable pattern across large surfaces.
A "to the ceiling" design solution
A false transom was used to achieve the greatest possible visual impression of height.
- False transom: a decorative solid panel installed above the standard door opening. It is finished in the same veneer and style as the door leaves and continues all the way to the ceiling.
- A single ensemble: when closed, the joint between the doors and the transom is minimal, creating the illusion of one timber leaf of extraordinary height. The photographs show how this element accentuates the ceiling height and aligns perfectly with the plasterboard ceiling bulkhead and the ventilation grilles.
The result
Thanks to a professional approach to veneer selection and flawless installation, we delivered a project that exceeded expectations. The doors have become the focal point of the living room, working perfectly with the wall panels and the TV zone. This solution shows how bespoke design and advanced material technology can create a truly unique living space.
